BCR-40DU (400-470 MHz) UHF Repeater with BCD-440 Duplexer

BridgeCom does it again!

"I purchased my first BridgeCom unit almost two years ago after building a relationship with Ron and becoming convinced he would stand behind whatever purchase I made.

Having need for a repeater for our transportation department there was only one option in my mind so I again contacted Ron for a UHF machine. Again, the support of the company and the quality of the product have been outstanding. Price, features, and support are untouched by others."-Keith K

This is a great product for the price. Easy to set up. Easy to program. I will be buying a commercial repeater from Bridgecom.

Nice repeater, easy to use and set up

The repeater with included duplexer is a great setup and is easy to get working. I appreciate the programming BridgeCom does so it's ready to run out of the box, but using the software is also relatively easy. I only have a few minor dislikes, but nothing that would stop me from buying it. First, the broadcast ID in Morse goes out without any tone. Support explained to me that given the repeater can support multiple users (where a "user" is effectively one group using the repeater with its own tone), it will only ID without any tone set. That's ok, but I would prefer a per-user ID option so that everyone using the repeater can hear the ID even with an outgoing tone set. The only way to get that is to not use an TX tone on the repeater. The manual could explain this better. The other minor nit is the N-type connector on the back. My initial set up is just repurposing a ham UHF antenna and feedline, which is all PL-259/SO-239 land. Adapters are available, but the BridgeCom page could mention this as a "hey, don't forget this adapter if you don't have one and plan to use any of your existing ham feedlines!". Simple fix. And lastly, the programming software is only available for Windows. I don't use Windows for anything except programming radios. I wish the programming software was available for Linux or at the very least a library that I could use and then write my own software. All that aside, the repeater itself is great and is working exactly as I wanted it to.

I want to say the product is very well built excellent as far as the quality. Unfortunately I do not have it hooked up yet but plan to this week I was waiting for a small shed to arrive and put it up on the hill here with underground electric.

Keep you updated should be soon

So far So go

we received the repeater in less time than expected. everything seems complete. We are waiting on getting the tower ready to put the repeater on. I will update this review at that time. But so far everything is as promised and timely. Calls to bridgecom were answered promptly.

Overall good, yet if it were me, I'd make 3 changes.

Overall, a NICE machine! I do have 3 specific things to bring up:
1) As last review, I stand by that a repeater's rating should be based on the output of the internal duplexer, although I realize I can use a higher gain antenna to make up the power difference.
2) The repeater's transmit audio is muted when the CW ID switches on. Is this normal for this model? My concern is that it will miss retransmitting a voice ID, possibly a rules violation.
3) Repeater testing information is included. So far so good! My worry is that if someone not authorized happens to tweak with the device, that unless the information such as squelch, RF power, etc from the selector is included and noted that it could cause unnecessary headaches. After all, the repeater itself can be used as a base station, a really decent feature in it's own.
