    This unit has a good solid feel and the audio quality out of the speaker is very good. On the air the mic also sounds very good according to reports. Not tinny or hollow sounding like other speaker mics.

    Like the 868, the 878 is rugged and feature filled. I like it better for a couple of reasons: the display (reversing the colors makes it much easier to read), APRS function - great feature to have when doing emergency comms work and NCS needs to track you.

    When the 868 came out about a year ago u could do next to nothing from the keypad, I was unable to download the driver available, hence I had a brick in my hand, and returned it. Now a year later they have perfected the 868 and added some cool features in the 878.
